Willis Edmund Mullinex passed away May 19, 2010 in McCall, ID. Willis was born August 23, 1916, at home near Urbana and Shellsburg, Benton County, IA
Willis was a loving husband. Willis married Lora Rogers, the love of his life in 1941. Shortly after that he was drafted into the WWII at the age of 26. Willis says WWII was his education. He spent his time in Germany, Switzerland and France. He was a sergeant in the Army Air Corp. He salvaged plane wrecks and repaired and maintained aircraft. He was an amateur photographer. He took pictures of all the great old building and famous places and of himself on bombs, missiles, guns, and airplanes. He used film cut down from aerial photo film & set up his own darkroom.
Willis was an animated and entertaining story teller. He had wonderful stories about his childhood on the family farm, growing up during the depression, serving in WWII, and life in Iowa, California and Idaho.
Willis was a hard worker. He was a career carpenter and cabinet maker. He was dam tender at Deadwood for 12 years.
Willis was a wood butcher of the best kind. Willis and Lora moved to Cascade in about 1973. Willis built their home from the ground up. He even built the doors, paneling, countertops & cabinets- all while working full time. As if that was not enough, he also harvested a lot of timber he used. He always said how lucky he was to have a wife like Lora. He lost Lora in March 2003 after more than 62 years of marriage.
Willis was preceded in death by his wife Lora, his parents Glen and Della Daugherty Mullinex, his sister Betty Carver and Mardell Hamilton of Iowa. He is survived by his brothers, Dale and Dean (Audrey) of Colorado; his niece Connie (Gary) Kruger of Cascade; many nieces, nephews and many special friends who will always love and miss him.
