Eva Rosina (Keller) Engel was the daughter of Johann Andreas Keller and Katharina Margarethe (Schweizer) Keller. On May 19, 1866 she left Hamburg, Germany on the ship Teutonia. She arrived at Castle Garden, New York on June 14, 1866.

Eva's destination was Middle Amana, in Iowa's Amana Colonies, as stated on her immigrant's trunk. Daughter Rosie ((Engel) Schirm write that Eva went to work in a kitchen in Homestead, Iowa, in the Amana Colonies, and that Eva's sister, "Kate," also lived there. Eva was the younger sister of Katherine Margaretha (Keller) Walter (or Walthers) of Johnson County, Iowa. However, neither been found to have been enrolled as a member of the Amana Society.
